Three WrenchesFrom Milwaukee Tool:

“MILWAUKEE, WI- Milwaukee Tool continues to expand its Hand Tool offering with a new line of adjustable wrenches, including 5 standard wrenches and 1 wide jaw wrench. Built from the ground-up to provide best-in-class performance, as well as maximum versatility and comfort, the adjustable wrenches feature a new-to-world, proprietary adjustment screw to deliver jaws that won’t back off, maintaining grip on fasteners.”

Milwaukee has once again taken a simple tool that has been around for a long time and found ways to make significant improvements. There are two features to these adjustable wrenches that set them above the ones that I have been using for years. First and foremost is the adjustment screw that opens and closes the jaws. It has more threads per inch than the others I have seen or used, and the tolerances are tighter, making for a very smooth operation and secure positioning. The other very simple difference is a slightly thicker, contoured handle that is much more comfortable, particularly when pushing or pulling hard on the wrench. Add to these improvements accurate dual scales (standard and metric) and you have a better wrench, one that leads one to wonder why these changes had not happened years ago.

Adjusting screwsA comparison of the new Milwaukee 10″ wrench with one I had in my toolbox shows the considerable difference in the pitch of the adjusting screws. The Milwaukee wrench on the right engages seven teeth of the jaw at a time while the older one on the left engages four. The finer pitch means more of a “shared load”, if you will, contributing to the smooth, secure feel. I confess that I spent a good while just opening and closing the jaws, thinking of all the times in the past that I have had to use two hands to adjust a lesser tool.

8wideOne of the new offerings is an 8″ Wide Jaw wrench. It has the jaw capacity of a full 12″ wrench with an 8″ handle. As you can see from the scale, it opens slightly wider than 1½”.

2_8sThe need for a wider jaw implies larger fasteners, which also need deeper jaws. This comparison of the wide jaw with the standard jaw shows that the wide jaw is also nearly ¼” deeper.

Milwaukee concludes:

“…the new adjustable wrenches confirm Milwaukee’s unrelenting commitment to listening to its users and providing solutions that solve key industry frustrations, while increasing jobsite productivity. All are backed by Milwaukee’s limited lifetime warranty.”
